“Asking how many tells me that if it
was only, say two, you would be okay with the death penalty. There
have been 138 innocent people on death row released since 1973, and I
will bet that you are still for the death penalty. What on earth does
my benevolence have to do with putting, or not, an innocent person to
death? Since when has, how you or I feel about something, become a
determination of right and wrong? I thought that our intellect not
our emotions was how we decide right from wrong. I am a very
revengeful person. I love revenge movies, but my intellect will not
allow me to go there in reality. If I could be 100% sure that a
person was guilty, I would feel like putting them to death, but will
never think that the way I feel about it should be allowed to control
my intellect. In that it has been shown that being 100% sure is not
being accomplished a large amount of the time, I will repeat, how can
anyone be for the death penalty? Intellect tells me that it is just
wrong to kill anyone. That it is only my desire for revenge that is
telling me other wise. I guess that the death penalty could be
rationalized by thinking of it as self defense. The human is capable
of rationalizing anything. I hope that my intellect is always capable
of rising above my animal emotions.”
