Paul Krugman: Romney Victory Could Mean 'Double-Dip Recession'

Commented Oct 24, 2012 at 15:28:16 in Business

“We would probably already be in a depression if the GOP had won in 2008. Due to the power of the legislative branch limiting the power of the president, I doubt that even if Obama wins he is going to be able to keep us out of a depression. If he cannot keep us out of a depression, it might be better for the democrats if Romney wins. I just hope Obama can win and continue to keep us out of a depression. Not unlike the GOP wanting GM to go through bankruptcy, there are those in the GOP that would like nothing more than for this country to go into a depression. (Bankruptcy) They have accumulated a lot of cash and a depression would sure make their money worth a lot more. It would also bring America's cost of labor in line with that of China. They want to globalize cheap labor. At least if you vote for Obama there is a little hope.”
